Palm Beach County issued the following announcement on Feb. 19
In a 16-5 vote February 20, the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA) approved Amendment #1 to its 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan.
The amendment identifies the widening of State Road 7 (SR7) from two to four lanes between Okeechobee Boulevard and 60th Street North in fiscal years 2020-2024 at a cost of $20 million, and construction of the SR7 extension as a new four-lane roadway from 60th Street North to Northlake Boulevard in FY 2020-2024 at a cost of $53 million.
The SR7 extension has been in the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) long range transportation plan and on the county’s thoroughfare map for decades, prior to the approval of large-scale residential developments such as Ibis by the city of West Palm Beach.
Thousands of homes have been approved based on SR7’s completion to Northlake Boulevard to provide residents an alternate route for public safety, increase mobility and reduce crash diversions.
It is imperative that the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency resume long range planning of State Road 7.
