Florida Atlantic University’s beach volleyball pair, Olivia Strandberg and Ava Koehl, were named the Conference USA Pair of the Week, according to a March 17 announcement from the league office.

This recognition is the second time this season that a Florida Atlantic duo has received the honor. It is also the first career weekly award for both Strandberg and Koehl.

The pair had a strong showing at the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational, finishing with three wins and one loss. Their victories included straight-set wins over No. 7 Florida State, No. 6 Texas Christian University (TCU), and Tampa. The highlight of their weekend was a sweep against TCU’s second pair, who are part of the reigning national champions.

Strandberg and Koehl began their run with a win against Florida State’s second pair, taking both sets 22-20 and 21-18. They followed up by defeating TCU’s second pair in straight sets, 21-19 and 21-16. On Sunday, they closed out their tournament performance by sweeping Tampa’s court two team with scores of 21-18 and 21-19.

Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will compete in North Florida’s Tournament in Jacksonville on March 20-21. The Sandy Owls are scheduled to face No. 15 Stetson, Saint Leo, and host No. 16 North Florida during the event.
