City Of Greenacres issued the following announcement on Mar. 13.
ENGINE 94, READY FOR SERVICE!
This morning, a new fire rescue engine was officially commissioned into service as Mayor, Council, fire rescue personnel, and city staff gathered to participate in a traditional wet down and push-in ceremony!
A push-in of a new apparatus is a fire service tradition dating back to the 1800's. Back then, horse-drawn steam engines were not easily backed into the station with the horses alone, so after a call, firefighters would have to disconnect the fire equipment from the horses and push the apparatus back into the bays. The tradition lives on today across many fire departments in honor of those early crews.
Before the push-in, there was a ceremonial wet down from a small hose line from the fire engine that is being replaced, anointing the new fire engine.
Welcome, Engine 94!
