FOUR CANE INSTITUTE TEAMS TO COMPETE AT INTERNATIONAL SEAPERCH CHALLENGE

35

In April, The Cane Institute at FAU Lab Schools hosted two different SeaPerch tournaments at the Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton. The Cane Institute is the only organization in South Florida conducting SeaPerch tournaments this year, allowing local teams an opportunity to compete and qualify for the International SeaPerch Challenge in June 2022.

The ADHUS TCI SeaOwls Go-Fish and ADHUS TCI SeaOwls Buddy's teams took first and second place at the latest tournament. Third place was awarded to the Sea Bois from Discovery Academy of Science in Tampa. These three teams join two previously qualifying teams, the ADHUS TCI SeaOwlstronauts and the FAUHS TCI Kali-Maury Franks, to represent Florida at the  International SeaPerch Challenge at the University of Maryland  on June 4.

"The Cane Institute extends a well-deserved congratulations to both teams that qualified at the Seaperch tournament hosted at the YMCA," said Allan Phipps, STEM coordinator for FAU Lab Schools. "We continue to see unrivaled engineering innovation from A.D. Henderson and FAU High School underwater robotics teams."

Next year, The Cane Institute aims to host four to five SeaPerch tournaments with the Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton and other partners until Phase II of A.D. Henderson & FAU High School construction is complete, including a state of the art Aqua Science Center & Swimming Complex.

Founded by Dan Cane, The Cane Institute serves as the epicenter for research, education, and technology transfer for A.D. Henderson & FAU High School. The Institute's integrated approach to solving society's most challenging problems engages the best and brightest students, faculty, and resources at A.D. Henderson & FAU High School to explore today's most complex challenges in areas such as cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality, automation, and artificial intelligence.
