FREEDOM SHORES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Students to Receive Annual Training on Being TechSafe

Tech

Freedom Shores Elementary School issued the following announcement on Nov.

It’s important for students to be smart and safe while using technology, and in response, TechSafe lessons will be offered at every school in the District.

The TechSafe program offers age-appropriate instruction for students in kindergarten through 12th grade on internet safety, behaving appropriately online, cyberbullying awareness, and digital citizenship, including how to think critically and compassionately about what they see online.

Students will also learn how to protect personal information and privacy while using social media. This year, the TechSafe program offers distance learning resources as well as materials to help students understand the Coronavirus pandemic and reduce anxiety during these stressful times.

There are additional resources available for teachers to offer lessons in Social Emotional Learning and media literacy. This helps students learn how to tell the difference between facts and fiction when using the internet.

Family resources are also available to help families de-stress during the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. The classroom lessons will include direct instruction and an opportunity for students to ask questions.

The annual TechSafe training for students is part of the District's efforts to comply with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act and other federal and state mandates. The District training is required, as outlined in District Policy 8.123 - Technology Acceptable Use Policy for Students.
