Florida Atlantic University guards Josiah Parker and Kanaan Carlyle have received recognition from the American Athletic Conference, with Parker named Freshman of the Week and Carlyle earning an honorable mention. The announcement was made by the conference on Monday.
Parker has now claimed his seventh Freshman of the Week honor this season, which is more than any other player in the league. This is also his third consecutive week receiving the award. His performance contributed to Florida Atlantic’s two victories during the week, including a last-second layup that secured a 77-76 overtime win against Charlotte. Over the week, Parker led his team in rebounds with a total of 20—11 in a win over Temple and nine against Charlotte. He also recorded 19 points, one block, and two assists during these games. In both matchups, he came close to achieving double-doubles. In the past five games, Parker has collected 53 rebounds for his team.
Carlyle earned his second honorable mention of the season after scoring 41 points across two games last week. His efforts helped Florida Atlantic secure a spot in the upcoming American Conference tournament. Carlyle averaged 20.5 points per game for the week and made seven three-pointers out of nineteen attempts. He is currently the only player on his team with more than 500 career points, reaching a total of 721 points so far. With 356 points scored this season alone, he has set a new personal best.
The Owls are scheduled to play their final regular-season game against Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday, March 7 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
