The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced on Apr. 1 that Van Steaven Ceron was arrested after an investigation revealed he intentionally caused a car crash and submitted a fraudulent insurance claim.

Authorities said the incident took place on February 22, 2026, at the intersection of Woolbright Road and El Clair Ranch Road. Deputies responded to the scene and began investigating after reviewing video evidence and interviewing witnesses. The investigation determined that Ceron had violently struck another vehicle in what officials described as a staged crash.

According to investigators, Ceron later filed an insurance claim with State Farm, seeking compensation for both damage to his vehicle and alleged injuries he claimed resulted from the incident. The victim of the collision reportedly suffered more than $12,000 in vehicle damage as well as back and neck injuries.

Ceron was located by law enforcement on March 31, 2026, and taken into custody on charges related to staging the crash and filing a fraudulent insurance claim.

Cases involving staged accidents are often investigated thoroughly due to their impact on victims and potential consequences for all parties involved. Law enforcement agencies continue efforts to detect such schemes in order to protect community members from financial loss or injury.
