Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team secured a 3-2 win over Iowa on Sunday, ending their series with a victory. The Owls now hold a 3-4 record as they prepare for a midweek game against Miami, which currently has an undefeated 9-0 record.

The game began with Florida Atlantic scoring in the first inning. Marshall Lipsey started with a single, and after Nick Romano was hit by a pitch, Brando Leroux doubled to bring in the first run.

Iowa responded in the third inning with three consecutive hits off freshman pitcher Garrett Grant. However, Grant managed to prevent further damage by inducing two groundouts and a pop-up, leaving the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the third inning, Romano and Leroux each singled. Romano later scored on an Ian Collier groundout to tie the game at 2-2.

With two outs in the fourth inning, Kyle Boylston hit his first collegiate home run over the left field wall, giving Florida Atlantic a 3-2 lead.

From that point forward, Florida Atlantic maintained solid defense and received strong performances from its bullpen. Iowa left runners on base during several late innings but could not score again. Five relievers combined to keep Iowa scoreless for six innings.

Romano, Leroux, and John Martinez each recorded two hits for Florida Atlantic. The team outhit Iowa 10-9 overall.

On the mound, Grant allowed two runs over 3.2 innings in his second college start. Brody Juntunen relieved him and got out of trouble in the fourth inning. Carson Kimball pitched a scoreless fifth before Kide Adetuyi entered with two runners on base in the sixth; Adetuyi ended that threat and retired all batters he faced in the seventh to earn credit for the win as relief pitcher. Kyzer Smith handled a clean eighth inning while Bryan Boully earned his second save of the season after closing out the ninth without allowing any runs.

Florida Atlantic will next host Miami on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m., with tickets available online at https://am.ticketmaster.com/fau/buy/quickbuy?id=MTQ1NQ==.
