Florida Atlantic University announced on Mar. 17 that second baseman John Martinez has received an American Conference weekly honorable mention for his recent performances in baseball. This marks the third consecutive week that a Florida Atlantic Owls player has been recognized with this honor, following previous mentions for Nick Romano and Garrett Grant.
Martinez’s recognition comes after a strong four-game stretch in which he recorded eight hits in seventeen at-bats, including two doubles and three runs batted in. Notably, Martinez delivered a walk-off, two-RBI single during Friday’s 11-inning game against UMBC, securing a dramatic 10-9 victory for the Owls. He also contributed three hits in Sunday’s series finale, which resulted in another walk-off win for the team.
Through the first twenty games of the season, Martinez leads the Owls in several key offensive categories: hits, RBI, doubles, and total bases. His consistent performance has played a significant role in the team’s early success this season.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic is set to face FGCU on Tuesday night before beginning American Conference play against UTSA on Friday at FAU Baseball Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
