Florida Atlantic University announced on Mar. 9 that redshirt junior outfielder Kylie Hammonds and graduate pitcher Ainsley Lambert have been named to the American Conference Honorable Mention list for their performances in softball.
The recognition is the first of the season for both players, with Hammonds earning her second career honor and Lambert her fourth. Their efforts contributed to a 3-1 record for the Owls over the week, including a series win against Charlotte to start conference play.
Hammonds made significant contributions both offensively and defensively. She reached base 13 times in 17 plate appearances, collecting seven hits, eight runs, three home runs, four runs batted in, five walks, and a hit-by-pitch. Her slugging percentage was reported at 1.545, and she successfully stole two bases. Hammonds homered three times over two days, including a leadoff home run to begin conference play and another later that evening for her first multi-homer game. She is currently tied for the conference lead in home runs with seven and leads in runs scored with 29. Defensively, she recorded ten putouts from centerfield and prevented multiple hits, including robbing a home run.
Lambert appeared as a relief pitcher in three of four games during the week—all resulting in wins for Florida Atlantic. Over 7.2 innings pitched, she faced 27 batters without allowing any runs and gave up only three hits while striking out six opponents. On Sunday, Lambert earned a save to take the conference lead with four saves this season. She remains the only eligible pitcher in the American Conference holding opposing batters to an average below .200—currently at .170.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will host East Carolina at Joan Joyce Field at FAU Softball Stadium from Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15.
