The Florida Atlantic University women’s tennis team lost a close match to No. 27 Yale by a score of 4-3 on March 9 at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton.
This was the fifth time this season that the Owls have played a match decided by a single point. The loss brings Florida Atlantic’s record to 4-7, while Yale improves to 10-2.
Florida Atlantic started strong in doubles play, with Malika Amirgaliyeva and Alexia Patru winning their match on court two, and Malwina Rowinska and Maya Shanok securing victory on court three. The top doubles team of Panna Bartha and Katrin Pavkova were tied when the doubles point was clinched for FAU, resulting in their match being abandoned.
In singles competition, Bartha earned a win for FAU on the top court, but Yale responded with victories on courts four and six to even the score. Pavkova added another singles win for FAU, but losses on courts three and five set up a decisive final match on court two. Rowinska pushed her opponent to three sets but ultimately fell as Yale secured the overall victory.
The official results show that matches were competitive across all courts, with several sets going to tiebreakers or third sets. The contest lasted over three hours.
Florida Atlantic will next play at home against an unspecified opponent at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13. All home matches are free and open to the public.
