The Florida Atlantic University women’s tennis team secured a 4-3 win against in-state rival Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Friday afternoon in Boca Raton. This match marked the Owls’ first appearance since their January 30 victory, improving their season record to 3-2.

With this result, FAU now leads the all-time series against FGCU 11-8 and holds a 7-4 advantage when playing at home.

The doubles matches saw strong performances from the Owls. The pair of Panna Bartha and Katrin Pavkova achieved a shutout on court two, while Lara Smejkal and Malwina Rowinska clinched a 6-2 win on court one. These victories gave FAU an early lead as play moved into singles competition.

Bartha continued her success with a dominant singles performance, winning 6-0, 6-0. Additional wins came from Rowinska on court three (6-0, 6-4) and freshman Malika Amirgaliyeva on court four (6-2, 6-0), which secured the overall match for FAU.

Although Amirgaliyeva’s win decided the contest for the Owls, both teams played out all remaining matches. FGCU earned its three points through third-set tiebreaks in the final singles matches.

FAU will next face Miami in Coral Gables at noon on Saturday.
