Florida Atlantic women’s tennis narrowly falls to Charlotte in Tampa matchup

Florida Atlantic University’s women’s tennis team lost a close match to Charlotte, 4-3, in Tampa on Saturday. The match was played at a neutral site as part of non-conference competition between two American Conference teams.

FAU started strong by securing the doubles point. The pair of Panna Bartha and Katrin Pavkova won their match 6-4 on court one, while freshmen Malika Amirgaliyeva and Alexia Patru claimed a 6-3 victory on court two. Charlotte took the third doubles match.

In singles play, FAU’s Malwina Rowinska returned to action and earned a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win on court two. However, Charlotte gained momentum by winning matches on courts one, three, four, and six. Alexia Patru added another point for FAU with a three-set win on court five. The final score was 4-3 in favor of Charlotte.

Singles:
1. Ni Xi (Charlotte) defeated Panna Bartha (FAU) 6-4, 7-5
2. Malwina Rowinska (FAU) defeated Shona Nakano (Charlotte) 6-1, 6-1
3. Sara Suchanokova (Charlotte) defeated Malika Amirgaliyeva (FAU) 2-6, 6-4, 6-1
4. Lucia Aranda (Charlotte) defeated Katrin Pavkova (FAU) 7-6, 6-2
5. Alexia Patru (FAU) defeated Yelyzave Chainykova (Charlotte) 3-6, 6-2, 6-1
6. Prisca Abbas (Charlotte) defeated Lucia Cassidy (FAU) 6-0, 6-3

No order of finish was provided for the matches.

Looking ahead, FAU will remain in Tampa for an upcoming match against USF at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 1. Last year FAU won this matchup by a score of 4-0 and leads the all-time series against USF with nine wins to six losses.

After facing USF, the Owls will return home for seven consecutive matches starting Monday, March 9 against Yale. Their regular season concludes at FIU on April 11 before they participate in the American Conference Championship at Rice from April 16 to April 19.
