The Florida Atlantic University women’s tennis team defeated DePaul University 7-0 on March 27, improving its season record to 6-8 while DePaul fell to 10-8.
This result marks a strong performance for the Owls as they secured a sweep against a competitive opponent. The win demonstrates the team’s ability to respond under pressure and maintain resilience throughout the match.
Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU’s Director of Tennis, said, “I am very pleased with our fight and performance today. DePaul is a strong team that made it tough on our girls. I’m proud of the way we responded with toughness and resilience.”
In doubles play, Panna Bartha and Katrin Pavkova won their match on the top court with a score of 6-4. Malwina Rowinska and Maya Shanok clinched the doubles point for FAU by winning their match on court three with a score of 6-2.
During singles competition, Bartha secured another point for FAU by winning her match on court one in straight sets (6-4, 6-2). Freshman Lucia Cassidy added to the lead with a victory at court six (6-2, 6-0). Alexia Patru clinched the overall win for FAU after taking her match at court four (6-0, 7-6[8-6]). Other singles wins came from Shanok (court five), Pavkova (court two), and Malika Amirgaliyeva (court three).
FAU will next play Tulane at home at Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m., where they will also celebrate senior Maya Shanok. All matches are free and open to the public.
