The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) women’s beach volleyball team, ranked No. 14 nationally, completed the Seminole Beach Bash in Tallahassee with two 4-1 victories on Saturday. The Owls defeated No. 16 North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), bringing their season record to 7-1.

In the match against North Florida, Denisse Morgenstern and Shantel Starling gave FAU an early lead by winning in straight sets on court one. Reese Edwards and Kendall Mignerey extended the advantage with a three-set win at the third position. Cameron Knifton and Allison Spittal secured the dual victory for FAU with a comeback win on court five. Ava Koehl and Olivia Strandberg added another point after rallying for a three-set win at the second spot. North Florida took its only point of the match on court four.

Facing FGCU, Knifton and Spittal again put FAU ahead first with a straight-set victory at the fifth position. FGCU tied the score after winning on court one, but Edwards and Mignerey reclaimed the lead for FAU by winning in three sets at court three. Strandberg and Koehl clinched their first match-winning point of the season with a three-set victory at court two, while Scanlon and VanDeusen finished off the 4-1 result by coming from behind to win on court four.

With these results, FAU now holds an all-time record of 11 wins to eight losses against North Florida, and 17 wins to six losses against FGCU. Knifton and Spittal improved their season record to a team-best 7-1 after earning two wins during Saturday’s matches. Koehl and Strandberg moved to 6-1 for the season, while Mignerey and Edwards are now at 3-4 as a pair. Scanlon and VanDeusen stand at 5-2, while Morgenstern and Starling are at 4-3 this year.

The Owls will next compete in Conway, South Carolina, at the Chanticleer Challenge scheduled for March 6-7.
