The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team will conclude its two-game road trip with a matchup against the North Texas Mean Green on Saturday, January 31. The game is set for 3 p.m. ET at the Super Pit in Denton, Texas and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Florida Atlantic enters the contest with a 9-12 overall record and a 3-6 mark in American Athletic Conference play. In their most recent outing, the Owls fell to Tulsa by a score of 77-58. The team currently leads the conference in bench points per game (24.4) and ranks among the top five in several other statistical categories, including third in three-point attempts (22.0), three-pointers made (7.0), and fewest fouls per game (17.5). They are also fourth in steals per game (9.1).
Vivian Onugha leads Florida Atlantic offensively with an average of 9.4 points per game, followed by Grace Carstensen (8.7), Destyne Jackson (8.5), and Jess Moors (8.1). Haley Walker is the team’s leading rebounder with 6.6 boards per contest, while Onugha adds 6.1 rebounds per game.
Jess Moors leads the Owls in assists with an average of 2.9 per game and also tops the team—and ranks fifth in the conference—in steals at two per contest. Madi Gewirtz has recorded a team-high 24 blocks this season, averaging 1.1 blocks per game, which is fourth-best in the league.
Former FAU player Brittany Bowe has qualified for her fourth Winter Olympic Games and will compete in speed skating events: the 1,000m, 1,500m, and Women’s Team Pursuit races.
North Texas holds an overall record of 11-10 and is currently 5-4 within conference play but comes into Saturday’s matchup after back-to-back losses to Tulsa and UTSA. Aysia Proctor leads North Texas offensively with an average of 13.1 points per game; Megan Nestor follows closely at 12.8 points while also leading her team with averages of 13.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per contest.
Historically, North Texas leads the series against Florida Atlantic by a margin of 13-11 and holds a home advantage with seven wins out of eleven games played in Denton.
After facing North Texas, Florida Atlantic will return home to host UAB on February 7 for National Girls and Women in Sports Day at Eleanor R Baldwin Arena.
