Florida Atlantic University’s women’s basketball team will conclude its regular season on Saturday, March 7, facing Temple University at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. Both teams hold identical records of 13-16 overall and 7-10 in American Athletic Conference play. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Owls from Florida Atlantic have already secured a spot in the upcoming American Conference Tournament and are currently tied for seventh place with Temple and Charlotte. The team leads the conference in bench points per game (23.7), ranks third in three-point attempts per game (21.2), fourth in both steals per game (8.8) and three-pointers made per game (6.6), and fifth in turnovers forced per game (16.8).
Erin Rodgers leads Florida Atlantic’s offense, averaging 9.9 points per game. Vivian Onugha follows with 9.1 points per contest, while Grace Carstensen and Destyne Jackson add 8.3 and 8.0 points respectively this season. Carstensen tops both the team and the conference in three-point shooting percentage (.414) and has made 63 three-pointers, ranking fifth in the league.
Onugha also leads the team in rebounding with an average of six boards per game, followed by Haley Walker at 5.7 rebounds per contest. Jess Moors is the leader in assists (3.2 per game) and steals (1.7). Madi Gewirtz leads with one block per game, placing her ninth among conference players.
Temple enters the matchup after going 1-2 over its last three games, including a win against UAB but losses to Rice and South Florida. Kaylah Turner heads Temple’s scoring efforts with an average of 16.4 points per game, supported by Saniyah Craig (10.8) and Jaleesa Molina (10). Craig is also Temple’s top rebounder at 7.8 boards a contest, while Molina averages seven rebounds as well as leading the team with 0.6 blocks per game.
Tristen Taylor is Temple’s primary distributor with an average of 4.1 assists each outing this season, while Turner has collected a team-high total of 49 steals; Savannah Curry averages a team-best 1.8 steals per contest.
Florida Atlantic trails Temple in their all-time series history, having lost both previous matchups.
In their most recent outing on Tuesday against Tulane, Florida Atlantic won their final home game of the season by defeating Tulane Green Wave 61-57 on senior day. Michiyah Simmons led FAU with 13 points; Carstensen scored twelve while Gewirtz added ten points to round out double-digit scorers for FAU.
Ineivi Plata matched her career best with seven rebounds during that victory, while Onugha collected four steals as part of nine total for FAU on the night.
Florida Atlantic outshot Tulane across multiple categories: field goal percentage (37% to Tulane’s 35%), three-point shooting (27% to Tulane’s 22%), and free throws (79% to Tulane’s 70%). The FAU bench also outscored Tulane’s reserves by a wide margin—27 to four.
The Owls will begin postseason play at the American Women’s Basketball Championship starting Tuesday, March 10.
