The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team will begin a two-game road trip this week, starting with a matchup against East Carolina University on Tuesday, February 17. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, North Carolina, and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Florida Atlantic currently holds a record of 12-13 overall and 6-7 in American Athletic Conference play. The team enters the contest on a three-game winning streak, having recently defeated UAB, Wichita State, and Tulsa. The Owls are among the conference leaders in several statistical categories, including bench points per game (24.6), steals per game (9.1), three-point attempts per game (21.2), and three-pointers made per game (6.6).
Erin Rodgers leads the Owls in scoring with an average of 10.1 points per game. Vivian Onugha and Destyne Jackson follow with averages of 8.9 and 8.3 points per game, respectively. Carstensen has made the most three-pointers for the team this season (53) and holds a .411 shooting percentage from beyond the arc, ranking second in the conference.
Haley Walker and Onugha are tied as the team’s top rebounders with an average of 6.2 rebounds each per game. Moors leads in assists (2.8 per game) and steals (1.8 per game). Madi Gewirtz is averaging one block per contest, which places her fifth among all players in the conference.
Former Florida Atlantic player Brittany Bowe is participating in her fourth Winter Olympic Games, competing in speed skating events including the 1,000m, 1,500m, and Women’s Team Pursuit races.
East Carolina enters Tuesday’s matchup ranked second in the American Athletic Conference with a record of 19-7 overall and 11-2 in league play. The Pirates have won four straight games against Charlotte, South Florida, Tulane, and Temple.
Kennedy Fauntleroy leads East Carolina offensively with an average of 13.7 points per game and also tops the team’s statistics for assists (4.5), steals (2.8), and blocks (0.7). Anzhane Hutton is East Carolina’s leading rebounder at 6.5 boards per contest.
Historically, East Carolina leads the series against Florida Atlantic by five wins to one; however, each team has won once when playing in Greenville.
Florida Atlantic comes into this contest after defeating Tulsa 61-55 last Saturday—its first win over Tulsa since February 2014 and its first-ever home victory against that opponent. Destyne Jackson led FAU with a season-high 16 points along with five steals during that game.
Following Tuesday’s matchup at East Carolina, Florida Atlantic will continue its road stretch against South Florida on Saturday evening at Yuengling Center.
