Florida Atlantic University’s softball team will continue its American Conference schedule with a three-game home series against the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), beginning Friday, Mar. 26. The games are set for Joan Joyce Field at FAU Softball Stadium, with first pitches scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m., and Sunday at noon. All matchups will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The upcoming series presents an opportunity for the Owls (22-11, 4-5) to improve their standing in the league, as UTSA (19-15, 7-2) currently shares second place in the conference. Friday’s game will feature ‘Kids Night,’ offering tickets under $5 and family activities including games and giveaways such as fanny packs, posters, and activity packets.
In their most recent outing, Florida Atlantic defeated FIU by a score of 10-2. Redshirt junior outfielder Kylie Hammonds hit two home runs while sophomore Lily Holtje added another. Senior pitcher Autumn Courtney struck out seven batters over nearly seven innings.
Florida Atlantic enters the weekend leading the American Conference in several statistical categories including runs scored (199), doubles (54), RBI (177), walks (120), on-base percentage (.412), runs allowed (100), strikeouts thrown (212), and opponent batting average (.237). Nationally, they rank No. 15 in fielding percentage (.979) and No. 35 in doubles.
Key players include Hammonds—who is on an 11-game hitting streak and leads both her team and conference in several offensive categories—and Holtje, who has been recognized as American Player of the Week once this season along with two Honorable Mentions. Senior third baseman Jesiana Mora has reached base safely in all but three games played this year.
Courtney was named Palm Beach County Amateur Athlete of the Year this March after previously earning unanimous American Conference Pitcher of the Year honors; she now ranks fourth nationally among active players with 71 career victories. Graduate pitcher Ainsley Lambert leads all active collegiate players with 28 career saves.
Head Coach Jordan Clark is now in her fourth season leading Florida Atlantic’s program and holds a record of 142 wins to just 59 losses; she received back-to-back American Conference Coaching Staff of the Year awards alongside her assistants.
UTSA is led by Head Coach Vann Stuedeman in her third year with standout performances from sophomore Sabrina Wick—second-most hits in conference—and freshman pitcher Arlette Hernandez who tops the league with ninety-six strikeouts so far this season.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will travel to Denton for a three-game series against North Texas starting Thursday, April 2.
