The Florida Atlantic University softball team swept a Saturday doubleheader against the University of Texas at San Antonio, winning 8-2 and 9-0 on March 28 at Joan Joyce Field. The victories completed a three-game series sweep for the Owls.
This series marks an important milestone for Florida Atlantic, as it was their first sweep of the season in American Conference play and extended their win streak against UTSA to 16 games. The Owls have now improved to a record of 26-11 overall and 7-5 in conference games.
In game one, senior first baseman Yani Guzman hit a grand slam—her team’s first of the season—to give FAU a decisive lead. Senior pitcher Madison Inscoe entered in relief and allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings, striking out three batters to improve her record to 3-0 this year.
Game two saw senior pitcher Autumn Courtney deliver her second consecutive shutout, holding UTSA scoreless over five innings. FAU’s offense erupted with eight runs in the third inning, highlighted by multiple hits from redshirt junior Kylie Hammonds and senior third baseman Jesiana Mora. Hammonds also took over as team leader with twelve multi-hit games this season.
Other notable performances included Guzman finishing the series with two home runs and seven runs batted in, while redshirt senior McKenna Mulholland was hit by pitch twice on Saturday for a team-leading total of twelve times this year. Courtney wrapped up her week with three wins, seventeen strikeouts, and an earned run average of just 0.75 across nearly three complete games pitched.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will travel for its next two weekends of play beginning April 2 at North Texas. All upcoming games are scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
