The Florida Atlantic University softball team swept the American Athletic Conference’s weekly awards on Mar. 30, with junior outfielder Ciara Gibson named Player of the Week and senior pitcher Autumn Courtney recognized as Pitcher of the Week.
These honors come after Florida Atlantic’s sweep of UTSA in a weekend series, bringing their season record to 25-11 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The recognition marks Gibson’s first collegiate award and Courtney’s second this season, as well as her eighth career honor with the Owls.
Gibson contributed significantly during the team’s four wins last week, collecting seven hits in eleven at-bats. She hit two home runs, drove in five runs, and scored six times. In three out of four games she had multiple hits and runs, while also recording an RBI in each contest. Her performance included two singles and a walk against FIU, followed by her first multi-home run game during a shutout over UTSA.
Courtney played a key role as pitcher for three victories, nearly completing three full games with two shutouts. She allowed only two earned runs across those appearances and limited opponents to a .109 batting average while striking out fifteen batters. Against FIU she gave up just three hits with seven strikeouts; against UTSA she kept hitters scoreless through back-to-back starts within twenty-four hours.
Courtney now leads the league with thirteen wins this season and holds an earned run average of 2.14 along with eighty-one strikeouts so far.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic is set to face North Texas from April 2 to April 4 on the road. All upcoming games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
