The Florida Atlantic University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against North Texas on April 2 in Denton, Texas. The Owls dropped the first game in extra innings by a score of 5-4 and were defeated 13-4 in the second game, which ended after five innings due to the run rule.

These losses mean that Florida Atlantic’s record stands at 25 wins and 13 losses overall, with a conference record of 7-7. North Texas improved its record to 22-16 overall and secured an 11-3 mark in conference play.

In the opening game, junior Ciara Gibson gave Florida Atlantic an early lead with an RBI single that drove in Bella Foran. Senior catcher Chloe Yeatts hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to three runs. However, North Texas responded with solo home runs and tied the game at four by the fifth inning. The contest remained deadlocked until the bottom of the tenth inning when North Texas won on a walk-off RBI single following a double.

During the second game, Yeatts again helped FAU take an early lead with a two-run single, but North Texas quickly answered back. A fielding error and three-run homer put them ahead before they added six more runs in the third inning. Gibson hit her fifth home run of the season for FAU but it was not enough as North Texas finished off their win after five innings under run-rule conditions.

Yeatts finished both games with four RBIs and now has six home runs this season. Gibson’s five homers have all come within her last nine games. Foran has scored at least one run in each of her last six games while senior third baseman Jesiana Mora collected three hits during Thursday’s doubleheader.

The series is scheduled to conclude Friday afternoon with first pitch moved up to 1 p.m., airing on ESPN+.
