Florida Atlantic University’s softball team defeated the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) 5-0 on March 27, continuing their winning streak to three games. The Owls used three home runs and a strong defensive performance to secure the shutout in the series opener against the Roadrunners.

The victory improves Florida Atlantic’s record to 23-11 overall and an even 5-5 in conference play, while UTSA falls to 19-16 and 7-3. Junior outfielder Ciara Gibson played a key role for the Owls, hitting two home runs in the game and bringing her total to four over her last four appearances. Senior pitcher Autumn Courtney allowed only one hit—a double early in the game—and then held UTSA hitless for the remainder of her outing.

UTSA threatened early by placing runners on second and third base with no outs in the first inning, but Courtney managed to retire three straight batters without allowing a run. Gibson gave FAU its first lead with a solo home run in the second inning. Senior Jesiana Mora added an RBI double in the third inning, scoring sophomore Bella Foran.

Gibson extended FAU’s lead with another solo home run leading off the fourth inning. In total, Courtney retired fifteen consecutive batters and recorded six strikeouts during her complete-game effort. Additional insurance came from senior Yani Guzman’s two-run homer late in the game.

Other notable performances included redshirt junior Kylie Hammonds extending her hitting streak to twelve games, Foran making seven putouts including several difficult catches, and Mora collecting hits in twenty-three of twenty-nine games this season. Courtney now leads all pitchers in victories within The American Conference with twelve wins so far this year.

The series is scheduled to conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday due to anticipated weather concerns Sunday. The first pitch is set for noon.
