Florida Atlantic baseball lost to Florida International University, 9-1, on Mar. 31 in the final meeting of the season between the two teams. The Owls left ten runners on base and managed only three hits during the game.
The result marked a disappointing end to the series for Florida Atlantic, which had won three of the previous four matchups against FIU. The team’s inability to capitalize with runners in scoring position played a key role in their defeat.
Dalton Robinson started for Florida Atlantic and did not allow a hit until the third inning. He finished with five strikeouts over four innings, giving up three runs on three hits. “The Owls left at least one runner on in each of the first six innings,” according to team information. Marshall Lipsey led Florida Atlantic’s offense with two hits, while Kyle Boylston added another hit and scored their only run after coming home on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.
FIU took control by scoring twice in both the fourth and fifth innings before adding five more runs in a big seventh inning that saw ten Panthers come to bat. After Kyzer Smith recorded two outs late in relief, Dylan Oborne pitched a scoreless eighth for Florida Atlantic.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will host UAB for a three-game American Conference series starting Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
