Florida Atlantic University’s men’s tennis team lost a close 4-3 match to Charlotte on April 5, ending their regular season with an overall record of 8-11. The non-conference contest was held in Boca Raton and lasted over three hours.
The result concludes the Owls’ regular campaign, while Charlotte improved its record to 14-7. The match served as a tune-up before Florida Atlantic heads into postseason play.
In doubles competition, Florida Atlantic quickly secured the opening point. Segundo Goity Zapico and Simon Myslivec won their match on court two with a score of 6-0, followed by Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera clinching court one with a 6-1 victory. This strong start gave the Owls early momentum.
However, singles matches shifted the tide. Charlotte took early wins on courts two and three before Havlicek evened the score for FAU with a straight-set win on court one. The remaining singles contests were closely fought, with several requiring three sets to determine winners. Jan Kusy claimed victory for FAU on court five after nearly two and a half hours of play, but Charlotte ultimately sealed the team win by taking court four in three sets.
With this loss marking the end of their regular season schedule, Florida Atlantic will now prepare for the American Conference Championships scheduled for April 16–19 at the University of Tulsa campus in Oklahoma.
