The Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis team lost to No. 68 East Tennessee State University on March 19 after their match was rescheduled due to weather. The contest, originally set for Wednesday evening, was played Thursday morning at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton.
The change in schedule did not benefit the Owls, who were defeated by a score of 4-1. The match began with doubles play, where Vanja Hodzic and Lucca Pignaton secured a win for Florida Atlantic with a 6-3 victory. However, the Owls dropped the top court and ultimately lost the doubles point after a close tiebreaker on court three.
In singles competition, junior Simon Myslivec earned a win for Florida Atlantic with a 7-5, 6-3 result, leveling the overall score at one apiece. Despite this effort, ETSU won courts four and two in straight sets before clinching the match with another close victory on court one.
The final tally saw ETSU defeat Florida Atlantic by a score of 4-1. Detailed results included wins for ETSU’s Oscar Martinez and Martin Vergara in both singles and doubles matches. Two singles matches were left unfinished as ETSU secured enough points to claim victory.
Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will face South Florida in an away non-conference match on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by a home contest against No. 54 Memphis on Sunday, March 22. All home matches at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center are free and open to the public.
