Florida Atlantic men’s tennis defeats FGCU Eagles with strong performances in singles and doubles

The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) men’s tennis team secured a 4-1 victory over Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Friday afternoon at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton. This win brings FAU’s season record to 4-2, while FGCU drops to 1-7.

With this result, FAU leads the all-time series against FGCU 14-4, including an 8-2 record when playing at home.

In doubles play, Vanja Hodzic and Lucca Pignaton of FAU were first to finish with a 6-1 win on court three. FGCU responded by taking court two. On court one, Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera of FAU overcame a late challenge from FGCU’s Jonathan Baron and Tanner Povey to secure a 7-5 win, clinching the doubles point for the Owls.

Mark Havlicek continued his strong performance in singles, defeating Tanner Povey 6-1, 6-2 on court one. After FGCU earned a win on court four, Marek Pazdera extended FAU’s lead with a straight-set victory on court three. Jan Kusy then clinched the match for FAU with a straight-set win on court five.

Other singles matches included unfinished contests between Segundo Goity Zapico (FAU) and Jonathan Baron (FGCU), as well as Luca Miremont (FAU) versus Stefan Correa (FGCU).

Looking ahead, FAU is scheduled to play UCF in Orlando on Thursday, February 26 at noon and will face Pennsylvania in Tampa on Sunday, March 1 at 10 a.m.
