Florida Atlantic men’s tennis returns home to face FGCU after road stretch

After nearly a month away from home, the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) men’s tennis team is set to host Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Friday, February 20 at 1 p.m. The match will take place at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.

FAU leads the all-time series against FGCU with a record of 13-4. In their most recent meeting on February 2, 2024, FGCU defeated FAU 6-1 in Fort Myers. During that match, juniors Mark Havlicek and Simon Myslivec won their singles matches as freshmen, both by scores of 6-4, 6-4.

Havlicek and Myslivec are expected to play key roles for the Owls in the upcoming match. This season, Havlicek has a record of 4-1 overall, including a perfect 3-0 on the top court and a 1-1 mark on court #2. Myslivec holds a season record of 2-2. Sophomore Segundo Goity Zapico has competed on both courts #1 and #2, with an overall record of 4-1.

In doubles play, Havlicek partners with Marek Pazdera for an undefeated 3-0 record on court #1. Meanwhile, Myslivec and Goity Zapico have compiled a 3-1 record together on court #2.

The Owls currently hold a season record of 3-2 while FGCU stands at 1-6.

Following Friday’s home match, FAU will travel to Orlando to face UCF on Thursday, February 26 at noon. The team will then compete against Pennsylvania at a neutral site in Tampa on Sunday, March 1 at 10 a.m.
