Florida Atlantic men’s tennis falls to Old Dominion in home match

The Florida Atlantic University men’s tennis team lost 4-2 to No. 75 Old Dominion on March 17 at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center in Boca Raton, Florida.

This match was significant as it marked the Owls’ second consecutive contest against a ranked opponent and dropped their season record to 6-7. Old Dominion improved its record to 11-5 and now leads the all-time series between the teams, 7-5.

In doubles play, Florida Atlantic’s Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera secured a win on the top court with a score of 6-2, while Vanja Hodzic and Lucca Pignaton won their match on court three, 6-4. With these victories, FAU claimed the doubles point early in the competition.

Jan Kusy extended FAU’s lead with a straight-set singles victory (6-3, 6-2) on court five. However, Old Dominion responded by winning four of the remaining singles matches. Adam Majchrzak defeated Havlicek (6-4, 6-1) on court one, Yanis Moundir won over Luca Miremont (6-3, 7-6), Felix Obermair overcame Segundo Goity Zapico (4-6, 7-5, 6-2), and J Olivier De Sardan clinched the overall win for ODU by beating Marek Pazdera (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).

Looking ahead, Florida Atlantic will continue its homestand by hosting No. 68 East Tennessee on Wednesday, March 18. The team will then face South Florida in a non-conference matchup before concluding the week against No. 54 Memphis on Sunday, March 22. All matches are scheduled at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center and are open to the public.
