Florida Atlantic University’s men’s tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Tulane on Thursday in New Orleans. This win marks the end of a four-match road series for FAU, bringing their overall season record to 5-5 and improving their away record to 2-5. Tulane’s loss drops their season standing to 3-6.
The match began with FAU’s doubles teams setting the pace. The top duo, Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera, won their match 6-4. Although FAU lost on court three in doubles play, Segundo Goity Zapico and Simon Myslivec clinched the doubles point with another 6-4 win on court two.
In singles play, Havlicek extended FAU’s lead with a straight-set victory (6-4, 6-3) on court one. Goity Zapico followed up with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the second spot. Myslivec secured the overall team win by defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-3 on court four.
Tulane earned its lone point when Piotr Andrzejewski defeated Jan Kusy in straight sets on court five. FAU’s Lucca Miremont added another point for his team by winning his match at court six (6-3, 6-2). The final score was determined when Pazdera outlasted Asaf Friedler in a close contest (7-6, 6-3) on court three.
With this result, Florida Atlantic has an even split in American Conference play at 1-1 but will have several opportunities to improve that as they are set to face four more conference opponents soon—three of those matches will be held at home.
The Owls’ next games will take place at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center against Utah State (March 10), Rice (March 13), Old Dominion (March 15), and East Tennessee State (March 18). Additional information about the schedule can be found through official channels.
