Florida Atlantic University’s men’s tennis team secured a 4-1 victory against South Alabama on Thursday afternoon, overcoming both travel disruptions and cold weather conditions.

The win moves the Owls to a 3-2 record for the season, while the Jaguars drop to 2-2. With this result, Florida Atlantic now leads the all-time series between the two programs at 10-8.

“Today wasn’t our best performance on the court, but I’m proud that we managed to secure the win,” said Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU’s director of tennis. “Shout out to Simon and Segundo for taking care of business; which really helped us carry momentum across the board.”

In doubles play, Vanja Hodzic and Lucca Pignaton were first off with a win on court three. The pair of Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera clinched the doubles point for FAU by winning on court one. The match on court two was left unfinished.

Simon Myslivec delivered FAU’s first singles point with a straight-set win on court four, giving his team an early lead. Segundo Goity Zapico extended that lead with another straight-set victory in the top singles spot.

South Alabama earned its only point with a straight-set win on court three. Mark Havlicek then secured overall victory for FAU after coming from behind to win his singles match in three sets on court two.

The next matches for Florida Atlantic are scheduled against FGCU at home on February 20 and away at UCF on February 26.
