Florida Atlantic University’s men’s golf team finished the first day of the Seminole Intercollegiate in eighth place with a score of +16, according to a March 15 update from the team. The tournament is being hosted by Florida State University in Tallahassee.
The event’s schedule was adjusted due to expected bad weather on Monday, with the second round starting Sunday afternoon instead of Monday as originally planned. Play was suspended partway through round two because of darkness, leaving several holes unfinished for many players.
NaShawn Tyson led Florida Atlantic in the opening round, shooting a 73 (+1) on the same course where he competed during last year’s NCAA Regional. Louka Morin began his round with four consecutive bogeys but recovered over the final 14 holes, finishing with a 75. Both Morin and Tyson have several holes left to play in their second rounds and are currently tied for 38th place at +5 overall. Biagio Gagliardi and Guilherme Grinberg are both +3 for the tournament and -1 in their second rounds, tying them for 25th place.
In team standings, Florida State leads at -4, nine strokes ahead of Southern Miss. Individually, Troy’s Lee Poppell and Southern Miss’ Matthew Javier are tied atop the leaderboard at -6.
Tournament organizers plan to resume round two at 4 p.m. on Monday, with Tuesday’s final round still scheduled as planned. Live scoring is available on GolfStat.
