The Florida Atlantic University men’s basketball team is set for a two-game road trip in Texas, with games against UTSA on Wednesday, February 18 at 8 p.m. ET and North Texas on Sunday, February 22 at 4 p.m. ET. The matchup against UTSA will be broadcast on ESPN+, while the game versus North Texas will air on ESPNU.
This week marks a rematch between FAU (14-12, 6-7) and UTSA (5-20, 1-12), who last met in the American Conference opener where FAU won by their largest margin since joining the conference. Following that, FAU will face North Texas (15-11, 6-7) for their only meeting of the season.
In their previous outings, FAU lost close contests to Rice and South Florida. Against Rice, freshman guard Josiah Parker recorded 25 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Isaiah Elohim added a career-high 22 points. In an overtime loss to South Florida, redshirt sophomore guard Devin Vanterpool led with 26 points and Parker posted another double-double in his first collegiate start.
Head Coach John Jakus is in his second year leading the program. He was a finalist for the Joe B. Hall Award during his debut season and guided the Owls to their fourth consecutive postseason appearance with a selection to the National Invitational Tournament in 2025.
FAU’s roster includes eight international players representing seven countries: United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Senegal, and France. Vanterpool leads the team with averages of 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game along with team highs in steals (37) and three-pointers made (52). His rebounding ranks ninth nationally among guards listed at six-foot-four or shorter. Vanterpool has scored at least thirty points this season—something not achieved by an Owl since January of 2024—and has registered two double-doubles so far.
Junior guard Kanaan Carlyle surpassed five hundred collegiate career points earlier this season and averages fourteen points per game. He has made at least one three-pointer in nineteen out of twenty-one games played.
Parker has been named American Conference Freshman of the Week five times and leads all conference freshmen in double-doubles over recent weeks. His performance against Memphis included twenty-one points and fourteen rebounds—the most by an FAU player since March of 2023.
As a team, FAU ranks sixth nationally in total blocks with one hundred forty-nine this season; redshirt sophomore forward Devin Williams is fourth nationwide individually with seventy blocks—a mark that places him third all-time for single-season blocks at FAU.
Elohim has reached double figures scoring in twenty games this year including each of his last seven appearances.
UTSA is coached by Austin Claunch in his second year with graduate guard Jamir Simpson averaging nearly sixteen points per game to lead the Roadrunners. Sophomore forward Baboucarr Njie leads UTSA in rebounds and blocks while redshirt junior Austin Nunez tops the assist chart for his team.
North Texas is led by first-year head coach Daniyal Robinson. Sophomore guard Je’Shawn Stevenson averages nearly seventeen points per contest; junior David Terrell Jr.’s one hundred twenty assists are third-most within the conference; defensively North Texas records almost ten steals per game—ranking first within their conference as well as sixth nationally.
Historically FAU trails North Texas sixteen games to eleven but claimed victory during their last meeting at the American Conference Tournament in March of 2024.
Following these road games, FAU returns home for its final two regular-season matchups: Thursday February 26 versus Temple on ESPN2 followed by Sunday March 1 against Charlotte on ESPN+.
