Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team secured a 14-2 win over FIU in a game that ended after seven innings on Friday night. The victory at Boca Raton improved FAU’s season record to 7-6, while FIU fell to 7-8. The teams will meet again for the second game of the series in Miami on Saturday.

FIU opened the scoring in the third inning, but FAU responded with four runs in the bottom half. A throwing error tied the game, followed by RBI singles from John Martinez and Patrick Ward. Ward later scored on a balk.

Sophomore pitcher James Litman struck out all three batters he faced in the fourth inning. Martinez added two more RBIs with another single as FAU extended its lead.

By the fifth inning, Marshall Lipsey hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot that increased FAU’s advantage to 7-1.

FAU continued its offensive surge with five runs in the sixth inning. After loading the bases through walks and an infield single, TJ Gramesty hit a two-run double into right-center field. Kyle Boylston contributed with a sacrifice fly, and Lipsey drove in another run with a single.

The game concluded under the run-rule after seven innings. FIU managed one more run before Litman completed his outing with his tenth strikeout.

Litman set career highs by pitching seven innings and recording ten strikeouts without issuing any walks. He allowed one earned run on six hits and improved his win-loss record to 3-1.

The series continues Saturday night at 6 p.m. in Miami before returning to Boca Raton for Sunday’s finale.
