The Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team lost to No. 2 Stanford and No. 1 UCLA on March 28 at the Texas Invitational held at ATX Beach in Austin, Texas. The Owls fell to Stanford by a score of 5-0 and were defeated by UCLA, 4-1.
These matches leave Florida Atlantic with a season record of 13-11, while Stanford improved to 20-2 and UCLA moved to an overall record of 18-3 this season.
Against Stanford, the Cardinal secured early wins on courts three and four in straight sets before clinching the match on court one after three sets. They went on to win courts five and two as well, closing out the contest without dropping a match.
In their final game of the weekend against UCLA, Florida Atlantic dropped early points as the Bruins took victories at positions one and two. Klaire VanDeusen and Mia Scanlon earned a straight-set win for FAU on court three with scores of 21-18, 21-17, cutting into UCLA’s lead. However, UCLA responded by winning court four in two sets before finishing with a three-set victory on court five.
VanDeusen and Scanlon’s performance against top-ranked UCLA improved their season-best record as a pair to 13 wins and ten losses overall this year. On court three specifically, they now hold seven wins against eight losses.
Florida Atlantic will take time off for Easter before returning home for senior weekend during their Capri Classic tournament scheduled for April 10–11 at the Florida Atlantic Beach Volleyball Complex. Friday’s matches are set to be broadcast live on ESPN+.
