Florida Atlantic baseball defeated Presbyterian 12-2 on March 10, ending the game in eight innings due to the run-rule. The Owls have now won four consecutive games and will aim to sweep the two-game midweek series.
The game began with Florida Atlantic scoring twice in the first inning despite only one hit. Brando Leroux was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Patrick Ward added a sacrifice fly for another run. In the second inning, Ian Collier led off with a double, followed by a single from Kyle Boylston. Both scored after a ground ball from Marshall Lipsey resulted in an error, and Leroux drove in another run with a single up the middle.
Presbyterian responded with two runs in the third inning, but Florida Atlantic’s bullpen kept them scoreless for the rest of the game. Dalton Robinson pitched two scoreless innings, while Brayden Gilson followed with three more without allowing any runs.
Heading into the bottom of the eighth, Florida Atlantic led 7-2. Brett Patten then hit a double that cleared the bases, and Collier ended the game with a two-run home run to secure victory under the run-rule.
Six different Owls recorded two hits each, including Collier who had both a double and home run. Boylston tied a program record by stealing three bases in one game. Ryan Buckler earned his first win as a starter after pitching three innings. Robinson struck out five of eight batters faced, and Gilson added three strikeouts over three innings.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at FAU Baseball Stadium.
