Florida Atlantic baseball will host the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) for a three-game series starting Friday night at 6:30 p.m., according to a March 12 announcement. The series continues with games on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
The matchup is significant as it marks Florida Atlantic’s final non-conference weekend before entering conference play. The Owls currently hold an 11-6 record and are coming off a two-game sweep against Presbyterian. Over their last five games, they have averaged nine runs per game. The team has shown strong performance when out-hitting opponents or leading after six innings, remaining undefeated in both scenarios.
Garrett Grant was recognized as an American Conference weekly honorable mention after pitching seven shutout innings in the recent series finale victory over FIU. Grant leads the conference with a 0.96 earned run average (ERA). Kide Adetuyi is set to make his first Saturday start this weekend; in his previous Tuesday starts, he allowed seven earned runs over 14.1 innings.
UMBC enters the series with a balanced 6-6 record, having secured wins over Mount St. Mary’s and Delaware State earlier this week. Ehi Okojie leads the Golden Retrievers offensively with three home runs and twelve runs batted in (RBI).
The two teams have met only once before, in 1992, when UMBC defeated Florida Atlantic by a score of 10-9 in Baltimore.
Following this weekend’s series, Florida Atlantic will host Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, March 17, before beginning conference play against UTSA next weekend.
