Florida Atlantic University’s baseball team lost its first away game of the season, falling 4-0 to the University of Florida on Tuesday night in Gainesville. The defeat brings FAU’s record to 6-6, while Florida, ranked ninth nationally, improves to 12-1.
Florida took an early lead by scoring in the first inning and added another run with a solo home run in the third. FAU starting pitcher Kide Adetuyi completed four innings, recording six strikeouts but leaving the game with his team trailing by four runs. Three of the four runs charged to Adetuyi were earned.
The Owls’ best opportunity came in the third inning when Ian Collier and Kyle Boylston hit consecutive singles. Marshall Lipsey advanced both runners with a bunt, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat without any runs scored.
After that point, Florida Atlantic managed only one more hit for the remainder of the game as Florida’s pitching staff maintained control. Brett Patten led FAU offensively with a double, a single, and two walks. Overall, Florida out-hit FAU nine to four.
In relief, Zach Kilby, Kyzer Smith, and Brayden Gilson pitched the final four innings for FAU without allowing any additional runs. Each reliever gave up one hit; Kilby recorded three strikeouts.
FAU will return home for its next series against FIU on Friday at 6:35 p.m., followed by a Saturday game in Miami at 6 p.m., and concluding Sunday in Boca Raton at noon.
